Harnessing Artificial Intelligence & Sustainability

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recently released a report on the Trends Shaping Education in 2025. The report states that while the education sector is governed by a number of factors from demographic and political to technological and economic, these vary by region.

There are, however, two key trends that are universally and unequivocally impacting education globally, even as you read this. Artificial Intelligence Technology (AI) and Environmental Sustainability are heavily influencing and shaping education as we know it. So, how is this happening and how are we leveraging these to improve the education experience today at GSG?

Helming The AI Education Revolution

The OECD report states, ‘AI has the potential to revolutionise education itself by providing personalised learning experiences, automating administrative tasks, and supporting teachers in identifying students’ needs.’

At the Global Schools Group, we leverage Artificial Intelligence through our learning management system, which is an efficient ecosystem built to centralise, personalise and optimise all functioning from workflows to course management.

The AI-driven system is a unique offering that differentiates the education processes at GSG from all other academic institutions. It uses cutting-edge AI applications to support better learning outcomes. With a centralised learning platform, it makes education more engaging, innovative and interactive through gaming and a digital-first approach.

The system provides effective learning aids and a comprehensive experience which is further strengthened by cohesive data analytics to monitor learners' progress. These offer students the flexibility and convenience of learning at their own pace and style.

It also allows for blended learning and self-development for students across geographies, enabling them to elevate their knowledge and skills to new heights.

Additionally, this centralised system paves the way for greater teacher productivity along with more seamless, efficient and effective workflows.

Privacy Concerns

A critical point made in the report is the fact that extensive use of AI ‘also raises concerns about data privacy, equity, and the potential for bias.’ Foreseeing this very concern, the learning management system was designed in-house to prevent any such breach of privacy, confidentiality and to erase bias as the system is designed solely to benefit and optimise the students, teachers and other internal stakeholders.

At the Global Annual Leadership Summit (GALS) 2025, senior leaders, academic heads and experts from across and even outside the GSG network convened to brainstorm, ideate, and collaborate on AI-driven strategies that will shape the next era of education. The outcomes and solutions from these discussions are already being implemented across the schools.

Addressing The Need for Sustainability

It is common knowledge that the need today is not simply to increase environmental awareness but to actually inculcate the right environmental sensibilities and encourage sustainable actions among the youth at the right age.

As per the OECD report, ‘the planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution intersect with education in various ways: education and training systems are both vulnerable to the impacts of socio-ecological emergencies, and crucial in shaping behaviours, collective action and skills that can support sustainable societies and greening economies.’

The report highlights the need for green jobs and skills, the importance of sustainable consumption and the need for advocacy and activism. This is something we have been working on for many years now.

GSG’s Commitment towards Sustainability

At the Global Schools, we understand the undeniable significance of sustainability measures and are immensely proud that GSG’s overall carbon footprint across all its campuses is only about 0.54MTCO2, significantly lower than the global average of 4.66 MTCO2 in 2023, according to Statista. Additionally, we are among the first K-12 educational institutions to publish our own Sustainability Report in accordance with GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) standards. We also track and report our carbon footprint following the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, along with other key ESG parameters. This marks a significant step in our commitment to sustainability and transparency.

Our schools have also pledged support to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), emphasising the importance of educating the next generation.

One of the most widely recognized approaches for schools is the Whole School Approach, which integrates sustainability into every aspect of school operations, student learning, and culture. Keeping various international frameworks for sustainability at schools in mind—including the Whole school approach, UNSDGs and country-specific approaches—we have developed the ‘5S of Sustainability’ framework, aligning with GRI and other reporting standards to ensure a comprehensive and impactful implementation. This framework incorporates targeted actions towards the five fields of Structure & Governance, Students & Learning, School Management & Operations, Skill Development and Stakeholder Connect.

We believe sustainability is a mindset and an ongoing process. This is why, despite winning so many awards, we continually strive to further improve our systems and processes to this effect.

Our endeavours towards harnessing technology and building sustainability into our systems are proof of our commitment to building a better, brighter and greener future for our global leaders of tomorrow.
